Firewise USA Communities in the Bay Area
In short: A Firewise USA site is a neighborhood or community that has earned recognition from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) for taking measurable steps to reduce wildfire risk. Across Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, and San Mateo counties, 14 communities currently hold Firewise USA "in good standing" status. Being part of a recognized Firewise site is one of the 12 mitigation categories under California Regulation 2644.9 (Safer from Wildfires) that participating insurers must consider when setting premiums.
